What is taken into account when you are given Impact Windows Prices?

This is a great question! And naturally one of the first questions that needs to be answered when exploring adding impact windows to your home or office. Unfortunately, there is not a flat cost that can be used across all circumstances and construction projects. However, we can provide you with a general idea of how much installing hurricane windows and doors can cost as well as how much it is worth it when it comes down to the value of a residential or commercial property and how it can lower your home insurance costs. Through this article we hope to shed some light into the different components of our impact window quotes and what homeowners are being charged for.

Breaking Down Impact Windows Costs

Understanding prices based on standard impact window sizes

Dedicating resources in a window replacement project can be one of the best investments in which the homeowner or property manager can get involved. Studies have found that when doing window replacement the property recovers between 60% and 80% of its value.
Overall, an average construction project will increase only by a few thousand dollars when adding impact windows versus traditional windows. If you are building a home or commercial property from the ground up, adding just a few thousand dollars to the overall cost can be pretty minimal and it is well worth it. Keep in mind that in Florida, when replacing more that 30% of the opening in your home, you are required to place hurricane protection in the whole property. So, if you are doing windows and doors replacement with non-impact windows, then you will have to also purchase, storm panels or accordion shutters for the whole property. Then, why not purchase impact windows and save some money?

For example, impact windows are available in all sorts of sizes and styles (See Window Catalog). Depending on the size and shape of the window, pricing will surely vary. The most common frames for impact resistant glass are either aluminum frames, vinyl frames or wood frames. Aluminum is often the cheapest option, but it is the strongest and most weather resistant. The second option is Vinyl windows, which is an excellent insulator and offers added energy savings. Last, but not least is wood, wood is the most expensive and is also an excellent insulator, however, it is at risk of warping due to long periods of wet weather.
Whether you decide to purchase a lower cost impact window or a higher cost window, if they have been approved by the Miami Dade Product control division (Miami Dade NOA), they will provide you with the necessary hurricane protection. You just have to make sure that the product specifications match the requirements for the hurricane zone of your property.

Status 627.0629 was Drafted to Protect Homeowners!

In order to protect the homeowners, who live in the state of Florida, Status 627.0629 was drafted.
In 1992 Hurricane Andrew devastated many properties, mainly in South Florida, so since that date it is required that insurance providers include a policy to cover the damage caused by hurricanes and that this is enabled for both residences as for commercial real estate.

Effective June 1, 2002, a rate filing for residential property insurance must include actuarially reasonable discounts, credits, or other rate differentials, or appropriate reductions in deductibles, for properties on which fixtures or construction techniques demonstrated to reduce the amount of loss in a windstorm have been installed or implemented. The fixtures or construction techniques shall include, but not be limited to, fixtures or construction techniques which enhance roof strength, roof covering performance, roof-to-wall strength, wall-to-floor-to-foundation strength, opening protection, and window, door, and skylight strength. Credits, discounts, or other rate differentials for fixtures and construction techniques which meet the minimum requirements of the Florida Building Code must be included in the rate filing. The office shall determine the discounts, credits, other rate differentials, and appropriate reductions in deductibles that reflect the full actuarial value of such revaluation, which may be used by insurers in rate filings.

Paying for Impact Windows & Doors

In today’s economy and financial environment, there are a lot of ways to pay for impact windows. Very few customers pay for these heavy duty aluminum windows in cash, as they can add up quickly. However, financial institutions throughout the country offer services and products that allow building owners to take out a loan and pay for their impact windows bit by bit over time.
There is also the option to open up a credit card and pay for the impact windows that way. Credit cards with reward programs can allow you to purchase all new impact resistant windows for your home and afford a trip to Disney World! It’s a win-win situation! If you are not one to take out a loan, we also recommend using tax return money to pay for the windows up front, without going into debt.
